I cannot find the number 222764 in Excel 2003 files. I can find the number when it's part of a text string (like a222764), or when it's a literal text string ('222764), but not when it's just a number.

Please help--FileSeek is a great tool.

Thanks,

I just did a quick test and was able to find 222764 when formatted as a number in Excel 2003 files. Could you send me a test file that doesn't work for you so I can see if I can duplicate it here?

You can attach it here, or email it to me at support@binaryfortress.com

Thanks!

Here is the test document. Fileseek 2.1.2.

Thanks for your help.

Your test file seems to work ok for me... can you try FileSeek 2.1.3?

It can be downloaded here: http://www.fileseek.ca/Download/

Thanks!

Interesting! Is it Excel 2003 that you have installed on your system? Or do you have another version of Excel and you're just using the older file format?

Excel 2003. I tried two more things. 1--copied the cells from fileseek test.xls and pasted them into a new spreadsheet. 2--I opened a new spreadsheet (fileseek test 3.xls, attached) and typed 222764 into cell A1. In both cases, fileseek did not find 222764.

I have offfilt.dll version 2006.0.5730.0. I tried disabling the file handler--still no good.

Ok good to know, I was testing with Excel 2003 files but using a system that has Excel 2010 installed. I will test in a system with Excel 2003 and keep you posted.

Thanks!

One more quick question, which version of Windows are you running?

Finally had a chance to test this out in XP SP3 with Office 2003, but I can still find the number ok in the test files. The only difference I found was that my OffFilt.dll was a higher version than yours: 2006.0.5732.0

Could you send me a copy of your OffFilt.dll so I can test it out?

Also, is it only that number specifically? Or does it not find any values in number formatted cells?

Thanks!

It does not matter what the number is.

DLL attached. Thanks.

This post seems to relate to the same problem with a different search product:

Yep, that's definitely the problem! After replacing my offfilt.dll with yours, it broke.

The version I have came in this hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915800

Let me know how it works out once you've installed the hotfix.

Thanks!

That did the trick! You may want to update your program to read the .dll version number and urge the user to apply the hotfix. I'm surprised this hotfix is not in SP3.

Thanks for helping me with this.

Good call, in the meantime, I've added it to the FileSeek FAQ.

Thanks for following up!
