I searched the forums and came up with a post regarding searching within zip files dated March 2008 and it was said that it would be in a future release.

I still don't see an explicit option to search within archives. Is it still a planned feature?

This feature is included in the latest version of FileSeek. Just enable the "Load and process files using IFilters". I really should rename this option, it's not a very friendly name. :)

I tried that. It doesn't work.

I made a simple text file with 'test1234' and zipped it. Then searched for 'test1234' and no results were found.

It's possible that you don't have an IFilter installed for ZIP files. Check the FileSeek Settings window, on the IFilters tab and see if the ZIP extension has a registered IFilter. If not, you will need to install an application that provides an IFilter driver.

Hi,

I am using FileSeek 1.9.8.

When I saw this post, I tried searching for text file names (not text in text files) in a .zip file without success. IFilters is showing the ZIP extension (see attached). The "Load and process files using IFilters (slow)" is checked.

When I try searching for text in text files in a ZIP file:

1) When IFilters is checked, the ZIP file does not appear like some other files with the Line: No IFilter for this file. So, it appears it is OK with the ZIP file, but it doesn't find the file. It also doesn't find the same text file in the directory being searched (the text file is in the directory and in the ZIP file).

2) When IFilters is not checked, it does find the text file in the directory.

When using IFilters - is this a search on only IFilter files? I did another test on another directory and it appears it is. That directory has several PDF files and one text file. When using IFilter, the text file was not found.

Thanks,

Kevin

I can confirm this issue. It appears that the Windows handler for .txt files doesn't return anything. :( I'll have this fixed up for the next release. Thanks!
