I have a directory with a bunch of zip files. Is it even possible to search inside text files inside zip files. I have been unsuccessful in searching zip files using File Handlers. The text files are in the zip file but the zip file contains multiple nested subfolders before getting to the file. The files do not contain an extension but can be opened in a regular text editor. I was using Agent Ransack but the free version doesn't have this ability and was looking for an alternative. Brent

Hi Brent, which version of Windows are you using?

Apologies for waking a sleeping thread, but WinRAR can search text strings in zip files, if you still need this functionality.

1. Open WinRAR
2. Navigate to the folder with the zip files
(or navigate to a parent folder. if you want to search a whole drive, select the drive letter in step6 )
3. Click FIND
4. Leave the * in the file names box
5. Type the string you want it to find
6. Select for 'Disks and Folders'
7. type ZIP in the 'Archive types' box

also, the search string doesn't need quotes if it's multiple words

So, is it possible to user fileseek to search for a string in a text file inside a .zip file, or should WinRAR be used instead?

You should be able to by installing the .ZIP file handler: https://www.fileseek.ca/FAQ/#filehandlers

Hope that helps!
