It could be hard to build query that nails necessary results the first time I search through large number of files. So, I want to be able to search through list of files that were outputted by previous search. This way I can conduct iterative search, with each step narrow down results.

How to conduct new search exclusively among files produced by the previous search?

Thank you, would be very helpful in my line of day-to-day work

If you right-click somewhere in the results, you can choose "Show Filter Controls" and a new bar will popup with a search box. You can use that to filter by any field in the results :)

Hope that helps!

Hi Keith

Unfortunately, it doesn't help much. Filter can work only on already found matches, not unrelated content in the result files.

But even if filter would be able to search through unrelated content, it goes only 1 step further. Can I have brand new filter on already filtered results? I need to be able to conduct multiple steps like that, iteratively.

I know that RegEx engine is powerful and I can build clever search query to find what I want in just one run. If I would be building software system with specific search capabilities, I would have done just that: built complex and cool RegEx, optimize it for performance, etc.

But my queries for FileSeek are ad-hoc ones. I am thinking about task at hand, not about building complex powerful RegEx query. I don't want to concentrate too much on the query. If I had an ability to run new query on the results of the previous one, I would be able to achieve my goal in multiple steps, with each individual step having simple search query.

I need filter feature on steroids, so to say.

Can we maybe have 'Open new tab and search through files in results pane of this query' feature?

It would help me immensely. I am ready to pay more for a version of FileSeek with this feature :-)

Thank you

Ah ok, I see! I've added this to our feature request list, and if we're able to implement it in a future version, we'll definitely let you know.

Thanks!

Thank you, Keith.

You have excellent product, we adopted it and started to rely on it for some mission critical work. As a result, list of demands grows :)

BFS developers do great job.
