Not sure what you'll need to do to uninstall version 11, but usually I can just uninstall it via Control Panel > Programs and Features.

After reboot, when searching PDFs, I now get

Failed to call IPersistFile:Load. [HR: -2147467263]
The method or operation is not implemented.

And a few minutes later, FileSeek has stopped working

Trying to stop Windows Search / WSearch affects W10 dependencies

I was trying to uninstall 11, to try v9 on Windows 10, but stuck at the moment.

Any other suggestions? Is v9 on W10 the best approach.
Any requirement for Adobe Reader? I tend to use other PDF readers.

The File Handler only returns a large blob of text as a single line, so FileSeek can't match more than one line in the file. When File Handlers are disabled, you're getting more results because it's matching some metadata and other stuff in the file that when parsed as plain text are technically on different lines. Note that most of the additional results in the screenshot when using no File Handlers are duplicates from the same files.

Hope that makes sense! Please let me know if you still have any confusion about how the file handlers work :)

When I use the handlers, I get 12 results with or without ticking 'Only show first result for each file'. Replacing version 11 with version 9 seems to have gotten rid of the errors but I find it strange that now I find more matches when I don't use the File Handler.

For example:

I find 29 matches for a word when I search a particular folder that contains twelve PDF's. When I tick 'Process file contents using File Handlers (slower)', I find only 12 matches.

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0.07 installed on Windows 7 x64. I installed PDF iFilter 64 11.0.01 from here (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5542) and I added the "bin" folder to my system PATH environment variable as described and rebooted.

The + is used to find all files where the two words both exist anywhere in the document, even if they're not right next to each other. If you want to find the words only when they're together, just make sure to wrap the Query in quotes, so your Query box would contain (including the quotes):

"Section Container"
