As I'm upgrading to Windows 10 on my a few licensed laptops, I keep having to re-discover and solve searching PDFs by installing ifilter. Again today.

Do you have to load Adobe Reader DC?

Latest Adobe Reader DC "Windows 10"
https://get.adobe.com/reader/

PDF iFilter 64 11.0.01 PDFFilter64Setup here
https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5542&fileID=5550

After reboot, when searching PDFs, I now get

Failed to call IPersistFile:Load. [HR: -2147467263]
The method or operation is not implemented.

And a few minutes later, FileSeek has stopped working

Windows 10 1511 build 10586.318

Advanced uninstaller unable to uninstall ifilter, due to process from C:\Windows\System32\SearchFilterHost.exe
Trying to stop Windows Search / WSearch affects W10 dependencies

I was trying to uninstall 11, to try v9 on Windows 10, but stuck at the moment.

Any other suggestions? Is v9 on W10 the best approach.
Any requirement for Adobe Reader? I tend to use other PDF readers.

+++
For PDF iFilter version 9 PDFFilter64Setup here
Thought the link below might work, but CNET dowload wants a session link, version 9 should be http://dw.cbsi.com/redir?ttag=restart_download_click&ptid=3001&pagetype=product_pdl&astid=2&edid=3&tag=link&siteid=4&destUrl=&onid=13455&oid=3001-13455_4-53528&rsid=cbsidownloadcomsite&sl=en&sc=us&topicguid=digitalphoto%2Fphoto-sharing-publishing&topicbrcrm=&pid=11015070&mfgid=50607&merid=50607&ctype=dm&cval=NONE&devicetype=desktop&pguid=320bbf255794fe65c3e6cadf&viewguid=dD320IJojQe-SGK-8dtKpaSLhpzuOJvs9gnt&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.adobe.com%2Fpub%2Fadobe%2Facrobat%2Fwin%2F9.x%2FPDFiFilter64installer.zip

...maybe someone can decipher from the above, an alternate, similar to
https://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/9.x/PDFiFilter64installer.zip

Longer term, will there be a way to get the file handler, and or no filter option, to work without finding this post? Searching PDFs is one of the things I need most often.

Thanks

Ok, that makes sense. The File Handler only returns a large blob of text as a single line, so FileSeek can't match more than one line in the file. When File Handlers are disabled, you're getting more results because it's matching some metadata and other stuff in the file that when parsed as plain text are technically on different lines. Note that most of the additional results in the screenshot when using no File Handlers are duplicates from the same files.

Hope that makes sense! Please let me know if you still have any confusion about how the file handlers work
Suddenly it seems to be finding the .pdf files . . .

However I need some advice on search terms. Some of our searching is liable to be quite specific and following the guidelines (as best I could find them) I wanted to search for the individual term "Section Container", however if I use "Section + Container" it finds all instances of botheh "Section" and "Container". Can I effectively tailor the search to find only both words together ? ? ?
