I'm trying to to think of when I would want it turned on and this is actually what turned me off to the product months ago when I tried it. I came back to it only because it was already loaded on the machine and I was certain I was doing something wrong based on the results I was getting back.

Example:
Path: C:\|D:\
Exclude Path: C:\Windows
Include Files: *.* (Defaulted when starting a new search and only putting in Query text)
Exclude Files: pagefile.sys
Query: imagine

This results in every folder and endless files. I left it running for 2 hours and it amassed 2+TB in matches.
Fortunately I gave the product another shot - and in the meantime this forum post came up which gave me the key.

For many I would assume they want the quickest way to find what they want and the interface (IMHO) should adapt to that.

You want a file with "FRED" in the name - put it in Include Files. All the files with FRED in the name but not VELMA - VELMA goes in exclude. I set my path to the sub dir, where I want to files with a string in it.
Include Files: *
Query: "My string"

In the results are all sub folders, even if the folder name does not contain the search string.
Can I exclude file/folder names from the search?
